Description:
EUROPE – rEmote and rUral aReas Of EuroPe togethEr is an Erasmus+ project (KA210-ADU) dedicated to exploring the challenges, opportunities and potential of rural and remote communities across Europe.
About the Project:
Rural and remote areas represent a significant part of Europe’s territory and cultural identity. However, many of these communities face challenges such as depopulation, ageing populations, limited access to essential services, inadequate infrastructure and fewer opportunities for civic participation.Despite these difficulties, rural communities play an important role in preserving local traditions, cultural heritage, knowledge and ways of life that contribute to Europe’s diversity.
The EUROPE project was developed to better understand these challenges and highlight the potential of rural communities to create positive change.Through research, international cooperation and non-formal education, the project aimed to strengthen community engagement, encourage active citizenship and promote sustainable development in rural and remote areas.
Forgotten Frontiers – A Documentary About Rural Europe:
One of the main outcomes of the EUROPE project is Forgotten Frontiers, a documentary exploring the realities of rural life across four European countries: Iceland, Spain, Italy and Portugal.Through interviews and personal stories, the documentary introduces local communities, entrepreneurs and changemakers who are working to maintain and revitalise their rural areas.
It highlights both the difficulties these communities experience and the innovative ways they respond to challenges, demonstrating the importance of local knowledge, community connections and collective action.Beyond presenting the challenges of rural life, Forgotten Frontiers celebrates the resilience, creativity and determination of people who continue to shape the future of their communities.
The documentary offers an opportunity to discover different rural realities across Europe while reflecting on the importance of preserving local identities, traditions and community heritage.
