The San Paterniano Fair is a historic event linked to the feast day of Scheggia’s patron saint. For many decades, it was the main occasion for people from the local area and neighbouring municipalities to come together, until it was discontinued in 1965. In recent years, it has been revived thanks to the efforts of the Pro Loco, local associations and the municipal administration, with the aim of restoring and promoting a tradition deeply rooted in the community’s memory. 
 
Through the San Paterniano Fair, the video explores the identity of Scheggia and Pascelupo and the strong bond between the community and its territory. Traditions linked to agriculture and livestock farming, the culture of the Cavallo Agricolo Italiano da Tiro Pesante Rapido (CAITPR – Italian Heavy Draft Horse) and the tradition of muleteering, together with the memory of traditional crafts preserved, for example, in the Carpenter’s Museum, bear witness to a heritage of knowledge, practices and values that continues to characterise community life and is passed on to new generations. 

The video also highlights the numerous resources that make this area unique: the landscape of Monte Cucco Park, its walking routes, the Benedictine abbeys of Sant’Emiliano and Santa Maria di Sitria, and other sites of historical, cultural and natural interest. These are presented as elements closely linked to local identity and capable of offering visitors an authentic experience of the area. 

A central theme of the video is the future of inland areas. Through the testimonies of the mayor and other key figures, the video shows how the promotion of cultural, natural and intangible heritage can foster new development opportunities based on slow, sustainable and high-quality tourism. At the same time, it emphasises the importance of preserving essential services, supporting local entrepreneurship, creating opportunities for young people and combating depopulation, so that these areas can continue to be vibrant and welcoming places offering opportunities for the future. 

The San Paterniano Fair is thus presented not only as the revival of a historic tradition, but also as the symbol of a community that recognises its cultural heritage and its Sense of Place as a resource for building the future of the area, strengthening dialogue between generations and promoting the sustainable development of rural areas. 
Una cosa che non cambierei, invece, è “inland areas” per aree interne: nel contesto europeo/turistico è una soluzione molto più naturale di inner areas. Anche Sense of Place lo lascerei con le maiuscole, visto che nel vostro progetto è un concetto centrale e quasi un termine tecnico.
