Description:

Sigillo Infiora is the committee established to coordinate and promote the traditional artistic flower carpet display that takes place every year in Sigillo on the feast of Corpus Christi. For over fifty years, the streets of the historic center have been transformed into an enchanting path of floral carpets, created with flower petals, leaves, berries, and other natural materials gathered locally and skillfully arranged by the flower artists. The works created are primarily inspired by sacred images and, in recent years, by themes proposed by the Committee, combining religious tradition with messages and cultural references of particular relevance today.

The event represents an important example of intangible cultural heritage, rooted in community participation and the transmission of knowledge, techniques, and traditions that have been passed down through generations. In fact, preparing for the event involves a large number of volunteers in gathering natural materials, designing the patterns, and creating the works, transforming the flower display into an opportunity for collaboration and sharing that strengthens the sense of belonging to the community. Young people and children also actively participate in the initiative, contributing to the continuity of a tradition that continues to shape the village’s identity.

In addition to its artistic and religious value, Sigillo Infiora contributes to the enhancement of the historic center and the Monte Cucco Park area, attracting numerous visitors each year and promoting tourism that celebrates local traditions. The event demonstrates how intangible cultural heritage can become an opportunity to strengthen the bond between community, landscape, and identity, transforming an ancient custom into a shared experience of participation and celebration of the local area.

The attached photographs and videos document the various stages of the event, from the preparation of natural materials to the creation of the floral carpets, right up to the final result that transforms the historic center into an evocative artistic journey. The material bears witness to the community’s strong involvement, the collaboration among volunteers of all ages, and the collective effort that makes the renewal of this tradition possible, highlighting how Sigillo Infiora represents not only an artistic and religious event but also an important expression of the intangible cultural heritage and identity of the local community.
